Shameless: Exploring Faith and Sexuality

Shameless: Exploring Faith and Sexuality

Our concepts of our souls, our bodies, and our God are all wrapped up in this complicated package that we call “sexuality.” This weekend retreat for young adults will use Nadia Bolz-Weber’s book Shameless: A Case For Not Feeling Bad About Feeling Good (About Sex) as our core text and launchpad. We will work together to unpack some of the complicated and conflicting messages of the institutional church on matters of sex and sexuality. We will attempt to create an alternative, theologically and socially progressive narrative to the “purity and modesty culture” that has dominated the Christian conversation around sex.

This retreat, as with all of Camp Whitman’s programming, is open to all, regardless of sexual or gender identity. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment space for those who identify as queer, gender-fluid, gender-non-binary, and/or gender-non-conforming.

For young adults ages 18-29.

Meals Included: Friday Dinner, Saturday: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Sunday: Breakfast

Shared (Dorm or Rustic Cabin): $130/person
Quad+ (Renovated Cottage): $175/person

Youth Retreat: Exploring Creativity and Hands-on Living!

What does it mean to work with your hands?  Jesus was a carpenter. Spend a weekend creating with your hands, pondering together how we are each created in love by a loving Creator, and how God calls us to create according to how we were made in God’s image.

We will play games, hike, cook, spend lots of time around the campfire, walk the labyrinth and the shore of Seneca Lake, and by the end of the weekend, build something concrete that we can always look at and say, “wow—I built that!”.
